Ericka McGhee 4/9/26 - Blue Gold: War on Water (in class)

Today in class, we watched some of a documentary about the world's water supply. During the first half of this documentary, they explained that the world's water supply is diminishing. Even though people had thought they had found ways to help, it turned out they were only hurting the water supply. They also mentioned that only 3% of the world's water supply was freshwater. I found that very interesting because of how much of the earth is covered in water; only a small percentage is actually fresh. Another really interesting thing I found out was that water pollution has been linked to low fertility in men and women. The documentary explained how the groundwater is one main source we use to get our water. This has caused a lot of places to sink into the ground, such as Florida and Mexico City, for example. Mexico City has taken all of the groundwater in some areas of the city, causing them to have to move farther and farther away from pumping sites. It was stated that we are pumping 30 billion gallons of water each day from the earth. There are ways to stay within the sustainable limit, but we are not staying within that.
