Ericka McGhee 4/20/26 - Regenerative Farming (in class)

In class, we watched a documentary on regenerative farming. This showed me a new, more sustainable way of farming, which allows farmers to regenerate soil, allowing more water to infiltrate. The farmers use cows as grazers in order to keep the ecosystems healthy. The farmers use compost instead of chemicals and plant a variety of crops instead of just one for more diversity. They use animals to get the land ready for planting, which in turn leads to healthier livestock for food. They use animals to graze the land to avoid plowing, which can lead to damaged soil. I was unaware that the soil could be damaged by plowing, so this seems like a way better alternative. Keeping the soil healthy can also help with climate change by storing carbon and reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This helps with the worries of climate change because of the worry about greenhouse gases getting trapped in the atmosphere. This way of farming appears to be very sustainable and seems like what we need in order to help the environment.
