Ericka McGhee 4/20/26 - Class outside (in class)

On Thursday last week, we had class outside. During this class, we looked at the statue at the Lions Bridge by Anna Hyatt Huntington. Her statue was a huge stone sculpture of 5 men and a horse. Each of these men had different objects in their hands, each showing a different profession. There was a blacksmith, a cartographer, a writer, and someone with a book. The final man was shown breaking a horse, making the name of the statue feel clearer. It was called conquering the wild. The statue was beautiful, and all the pieces came together to explain how many different professions went into discovering new land and creating the opportunity for exploration. This class also allowed me to sit outside and take in the nature, which I haven't been able to do recently. The birds flying around created a sense of calmness that I needed during the final stretch of the school year. It also felt very fitting based on the topic of our class conversation.
