Ericka McGhee - 4/15/26: Liminal Sensorial Seductions (in class)

Recently in class, we talked about Liminal Sensorial Seductions. This describes the feeling of being "in-between" of being appealing to the senses. In the paper read during class, liminality was described as being "not one thing or the other". I felt like this was a perfect explanation for this term because it helps you to understand that it is nothing; you are just in the middle of something. An example of a sensorial seduction was explained as fruits that cannot be eaten. Pokeweed is a berry that seems very intriguing, but is poisonous if eaten. This was very interesting to learn. When I was younger, I used to play outside. I would use these berries as paint, but I had no idea they were dangerous. To be able to reach this liminal status, you have to come without an agenda. You must walk into whatever you are doing with no intent of gaining or losing anything. I found this to be very calming. You have no expectation of anything happening; you just get to experience the moment. Learning the phrase "sensorial seductions can open the door to something new" has really changed my perception of how I look at my everyday life.
