Braden Gage (Outside Readings)

I read an article outside of class about coral bleaching, and it was actually really interesting but also kind of concerning. The article explained how coral reefs get their color and energy from tiny algae living inside them, and when the ocean gets too warm, the coral gets stressed and basically kicks the algae out, which makes it turn white. What stood out to me was that the coral isn't dead right away, but it's kind of like it's on life support and can die if the conditions don't improve. I also didn't realize how important coral reefs are, they support about 25% of marine life and help protect coastlines from waves and storms. It's crazy to think that something happening underwater can affect food, jobs, and even whole communities.
