4/16/26 Entry #8- Environmental effects on immune system

I found an article based on a scientific study examining the effects of nongenetic factors on the development of autoimmune disease. The article touches on points like air pollution, household chemicals, work, radiation, etc, and their continued hits on the immune system. Air pollution, like traffic emissions, can cause inflammation and force the immune system to always remain highly active. They also mention diet as a causal factor, specifically mentioning the Western diet, full of ultra-processed foods, sugar, and low fiber intake, which disrupts gut conditions, a key factor of immune function. The authors also bring up the possible future effects of climate change. While these factors cannot be entirely eliminated from our daily lives, we can take measures to prevent developing these autoimmune diseases. Steps for prevention include eating cleaner, real food, regular exercise, and reducing everyday toxic exposures.
